Privacy Policy

Boring Video Editor ("the app", "we") is a video editor that works on the videos, music and audio files already on your phone. It has no user accounts, no advertising, no analytics and no crash-reporting SDKs. This page explains what data the app touches, what stays on your device and the few cases where data leaves it.

Data that stays on your device

• Media you edit: videos, images, music and audio files you pick through the Android system picker. The app reads them to build the preview and the export. It never uploads your videos.
• Projects: your edits (clip order, trims, text, overlays, keyframes, settings) are saved as project files in the app's private storage so you can reopen them. Temporary intermediate files created by tools such as speed change, freeze frame or background removal are also stored in the app's private storage and cleaned up automatically when no project uses them.
• Exports: finished videos and GIFs are saved to your gallery (Movies/BoringVideoEditor and Pictures/BoringVideoEditor).
• Voice-over recordings: recorded with the microphone and kept only inside your project.
• Settings: your preferences and any optional third-party API keys you enter (see below) are stored on your device only.

Features that send data over the internet

The following features only run when you start them. Nothing is sent in the background.

• Automatic captions from a clip: the audio track of the selected clip is sent to our own speech-to-text service (hosted on Cloudflare Workers, running an OpenAI Whisper model) and the recognised text is returned to the app. The audio is processed in memory to produce the transcript and is not stored by us or used for any other purpose.
• Cloud text-to-speech (optional, off by default): when you enable a cloud voice in Settings, the text you want spoken is sent to our text-to-speech service (Cloudflare Workers). Depending on the provider you choose, that service either synthesises the voice with Cloudflare Workers AI or forwards the text — together with the API key you entered — to ElevenLabs or Kie.ai. Those providers process the text under their own privacy policies. If cloud TTS is off, the voice is generated on your device with Android's built-in text-to-speech.
• Live captions from the microphone: uses Android's built-in speech recognition (SpeechRecognizer). Depending on your device and its settings, recognition may run on the device or on the speech service configured by your device manufacturer or Google, under their privacy policies.
• AI background removal: uses Google ML Kit selfie segmentation, which runs on your device. Google Play services may download the segmentation model the first time it is used and may collect device and performance information as described in the ML Kit terms.

Requests to our own services are signed with a key built into the app so that only this app can use them. They do not include any identifier for you, your device or your account.

Permissions

• Microphone (RECORD_AUDIO): voice-over recording, live captions and the "Reverse Song" tool. Only used while you are recording.
• Internet: only for the optional features listed above.
• Photos and videos: the app uses the Android photo picker, so it only ever receives the files you explicitly choose.

Data we collect about you

None. We do not collect personal information, device identifiers, location, usage statistics or crash reports. There is no account or sign-in.

Third-party services

• Cloudflare Workers (hosting for our speech-to-text and text-to-speech endpoints) — Cloudflare privacy policy
• Google ML Kit and Google Play services (on-device segmentation) — Google privacy policy
• ElevenLabs / Kie.ai — only if you enter your own API key for a cloud voice

Children

The app is not directed to children under 13 and does not knowingly collect any information from them.

Data deletion

All app data lives on your device. Deleting a project inside the app removes its files; uninstalling the app removes all projects, settings and temporary files. Exported videos in your gallery remain until you delete them. Our online services keep nothing to delete.

Changes to this policy

If the app gains features that change how data is handled, this page will be updated and the date at the top will change.
