This policy explains what the Boring Text To Speech mobile application ("the app") does with your information.
When you play or export text with a premium voice, the app sends that passage over an encrypted connection (HTTPS) to our speech server, which runs on Cloudflare. The server forwards the text to Google Cloud Text-to-Speech and returns the audio to your phone.
Premium voices are paid for with character packs. To keep track of your balance, the app creates a random identifier the first time it starts. It is not your name, your email address or your Google or Apple account. Our server stores, against this identifier:
Our server also sees your IP address as part of normal internet traffic. It is used only to limit abusive request rates and is not stored in our database.
Payment is handled entirely by Google Play (or the Apple App Store). We never see or store your payment details — no card number, no billing address, no name.
Purchases are verified through RevenueCat, a purchase-management service. When you open the store screen or complete a purchase, the following is sent to RevenueCat: the random identifier described above, the purchase receipt issued by the store, and basic technical details needed to price and validate the purchase (app version, platform, device model, operating-system version and country). Our server then reads the verified purchase from RevenueCat and adds the characters to your balance. Your text and your files are never sent to RevenueCat.
Voices marked as device voices use the text-to-speech engine built into your phone. Your text is handed to that system component on the device; the app does not send it anywhere. Depending on your device settings, some engines offer network voices that may use the internet; that behaviour is governed by the engine provider's privacy policy (for example Google's or Samsung's), not ours.
The app writes the following to your device's own storage. It is removed when you uninstall the app:
Everything on your device is deleted when you uninstall the app. To have the records on our server (balance, purchase records and usage log) deleted, email ongorunet@gmail.com with the subject "data deletion request" and include your Support ID. You can find it in the app under Settings → Support ID (tap it to copy). Requests are handled within 30 days. Deleting these records also deletes your remaining character balance.
The app is not directed at children under 13 and we do not knowingly collect personal information from children.
If this policy changes, the updated version will be published at this address with a new "last updated" date.
