Boring Snore — Sleep Tracker · Last updated: 28 August 2026
The short version: Boring Snore does not collect, transmit or store any of your data on our servers. There are no servers. Everything the app records stays on your phone, and you can delete it at any time.
What the app records
To detect snoring, Boring Snore uses your phone's microphone while a tracking session is running. It also reads the accelerometer to estimate movement during the night.
- Audio. Sound is analysed on your device, in real time, by a neural network bundled inside the app. Audio is never uploaded.
- Short recordings. When a snoring episode is confirmed, the app saves a six second clip so you can listen to it in the morning. These clips are stored only in the app's private storage on your phone.
- Night summaries. Sleep duration, snoring duration, sound levels, detected events and estimated sleep stages are stored in a local database on your phone.
What leaves your phone
Nothing. The app has no user accounts, no analytics, no advertising, no crash reporting and no third party SDKs that transmit data. It works with no internet connection at all.
The only time data leaves the app is when you choose it: the share button in a sleep report creates a plain text summary and hands it to whichever app you pick. You decide where it goes.
Permissions
- Microphone — required to detect snoring. Used only while a tracking session is running.
- Notifications — to show the ongoing tracking notification and the alarm.
- Ignore battery optimisation — optional. Android may otherwise pause the app during the night and stop tracking.
- The accelerometer needs no permission and is used only for movement estimation.
Deleting your data
Deleting a night from the app removes its summary, its events and its audio clips from your phone. Uninstalling the app removes everything it has stored. Because we never receive your data, there is nothing for us to delete on our side and nothing for you to request.
Children
Boring Snore is not directed at children under 13 and does not knowingly collect data from them. Since the app collects no data at all, this is true by construction.
Not a medical device
Sleep stages are estimated from movement and sound; they are not measured. Boring Snore is not a medical device and cannot diagnose sleep apnoea or any other condition. If you are concerned about your breathing during sleep, please talk to a doctor.
Changes
