Boring Data Usage

Privacy Policy

Boring Data Usage for Android · Last updated: 25 October 2026

Short version: Boring Data Usage has no internet permission, no accounts and no advertising or analytics libraries. It reads the mobile data counters Android already keeps on your phone and shows them to you. Nothing leaves your phone, and the developer receives none of your data.

Mobile data usage

With the Usage access permission, which you turn on yourself in the system settings, the app reads Android's network statistics for mobile networks: how much data the phone as a whole, and each app, sent and received over mobile networks in a given period. The app uses these counters only to work out and show your daily budget, your statistics and the widgets. It reads them from Android each time it needs them and does not keep its own history of your usage.

App names and icons

To label the per app list, the app looks up the names and icons of the apps on your phone that have a launcher entry, plus Google Play services. This lookup happens on the phone only.

Your plan settings

The monthly data amount, renewal day and daily target mode you enter are stored in the app's private storage on your phone. If Android backup is turned on, these settings can be included in your device backup, which Google keeps according to your backup settings, so they come back on a new phone. Your usage numbers are not part of that backup. Clearing the app's storage or uninstalling the app removes the settings from the phone.

Widgets

The home screen widgets show the same numbers as the app. To keep them current, the app schedules a refresh every few minutes while the phone is awake. The refresh runs on the phone and sends nothing anywhere.

Bug reports, ratings and links

"Report a bug" opens your email app with a message to the developer that includes the app version, package name, Android version and device model. Nothing is sent until you send the email yourself, and you can edit it first. "Rate this app" opens the app's page on Google Play, and "Privacy policy" opens this page in your browser.
